Pink Taxi Sindh: Can Women Book One Yet in 2026?
Pink Taxi Sindh: Can Women Book One Yet in 2026?
No. You cannot book a Pink Taxi in Sindh today. There is no app, no fare list and no booking number available to the public.
The scheme is real. The Sindh Mass Transit Authority lists the Pink Women Taxi Scheme as an ongoing project. But between "ongoing" and "you can ride in one" there is still a gap.
If a website is offering you a Pink Taxi application form, close it. No public form exists.
Here is the honest picture, including something no other guide will tell you.
The Thing Nobody Mentions: This Has Been Announced Five Times
Track the announcements and a pattern appears.
December 2022 — Sindh's transport minister announced a women-only cab service, to run in two phases with blue and pink fleets. A fare of Rs 200 to Rs 500 was mentioned.
February 2025 — Alongside the Pink Scooty launch, plans for a pink taxi with women drivers were announced again.
May 2025 — The transport department said it had officially launched the Peoples Pink and Normal Taxi Service, calling it a historic milestone.
September 2025 — At a Pink Scooty distribution ceremony, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari said the Sindh government was introducing pink taxis.
June 2026 — In the Sindh Assembly, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said an EV Pink Taxi Scheme would follow the scooty programme, with details to be shared soon.
Five announcements across four years. Still no public booking method.
That is not a reason to dismiss it. Sindh does finish transport projects. The Pink Bus has been running since 2023, and the province was first in Pakistan to put electric buses on the road.
It is a reason to wait for a booking app, not a press conference.
What Is Confirmed and What Is Not
Claim you will see online Where it actually stands The Pink Taxi scheme exists Yes. Listed as an ongoing SMTA project Women drivers only Yes. Confirmed as the core of the scheme Electric fleet Yes. Planned as EVs under Sindh's wider EV taxi push Karachi first Yes. That is the stated coverage Booking app Not launched. No official app name published Fare rates Not published for the current EV scheme Driver application form Does not exist publicly Expansion to other cities Not confirmed
About that Rs 200 to Rs 500 fare
Several sites quote this as today's price.
It comes from the 2022 plan, before the scheme was redesigned around electric vehicles. That figure is four years old.
No fare has been published for the current fleet. Treat any number you see as a guess.
Why the Taxi Is Taking So Long
The answer is not budget. It is licences.
When Sindh launched its women's mobility push, only about 150 women in the province held a motorbike driving licence.
That is not a typo. One hundred and fifty.
Since then, roughly 25,000 women have applied for or been issued licences, according to the transport minister.
You cannot run a women-only taxi fleet without licensed women drivers.
So the scooty scheme is not a side project to the taxi. It is the pipeline that makes the taxi possible. That explains the sequencing, and it explains why the taxi keeps slipping.
How to Spot a Fake Pink Taxi Website
This is the part that matters most right now.
The Sindh government has already had to publicly warn women about fraudulent registration pages for its pink schemes. Those warnings exist because the scams are working.
Three checks before you enter anything:
Check the domain. Real Government of Sindh sites end in .gos.pk or .gov.pk. SMTA's own site is smta.gos.pk
Never pay a fee. These are government schemes. Nobody legitimate charges you to apply or to confirm a slot
Ignore WhatsApp forwards. Screenshots and shortened links are how most of these scams spread
If you are unsure about anything, call SMTA directly on their toll-free line: 0800-07682
If You Want to Drive a Pink Taxi for a Living
There is a second story here, and it is about income rather than travel.
Professional driving in Pakistan is almost entirely male. The 150-licence figure shows how complete that gap has been.
A women-only fleet needs women drivers. That is a job category that barely existed here a few years ago.
No driver intake process has been published yet. When it opens, a valid licence will be the first requirement, because that is true of every driving role in this ecosystem.
If you are serious about it, getting licensed now is the only useful move available. Everything else is waiting.
What Needs to Be Published Before This Is Real
Three things, and none of them exist yet:
A booking method. App, helpline, or both
A fare structure. Per kilometre, flat rate, or metered
A driver intake process. How women apply, what training is given, whether the vehicle is owned or assigned
Until those land, the Pink Taxi is a plan, not a service.
