Overview
The first electric bus service has been introduced in Karachi by the Sindh government. The bus has been launched under the provincial Transport Department’s People’s Bus Service. The vehicles began running from Jinnah Avenue close to the Malir Cantonment to Sea View close to the city’s coast. Additionally, electric buses will begin running on additional city routes soon.
Memon claimed that the new service demonstrated the Pakistan People’s Party’s mission to provide the province’s metropolitan residents with the most contemporary, convenient, and affordable mass transportation options possible. He said that the buses we got from China are totally compliant with European environmental norms and they don’t produce any environmental pollution. He claimed that the initial route’s unique feature was that travelers would also have the option of traveling to Karachi International Airport.
The minister added that passengers who were going to the airport might take this bus as well. According to Memon, the average cost of a private cab ride to the airport is Rs. 1,500. However, ” EV bus can take you to the airport for just Rs50.”
He added that it was the duty of the city’s citizens to maintain the electric bus service. “The Electric Bus Service Karachi is people’s property, and we must cooperate to address the city’s traffic, pollution, and other issues.”
Capacity of Passengers
50 electric buses 20 meters long were purchased for twice the price of diesel-hybrid buses brought in from China. The 34 passenger seats on the 12 m long buses include two sections set out for people with disabilities. The vehicle could carry up to 40 standing people. The government wants to hire private partners to construct solar-powered charging stations for these buses.
“According to the provincial minister, the government is working with Chinese, European, and local businesses to create an electric bus manufacturing facility in the province in order to lower bus prices.”
