In this article, you will get to know about the New Mitsubishi Triton L200 and its old versions.
Introduction
It is a large pickup truck known as Mitsubishi Triton or Mitsubishi L200. It is in production since 1978. It is famous for its durability, off-road capabilities, and versatility. The Mitsubishi Triton L200 is a useful choice for both personal and commercial use. The total sale of the first three generations is around 2.8 million units.
Mitsubishi First Generation
In September 1978, Mitsubishi (first generation) pickup truck was sold in Japan by the name of Mitsubishi Forte. It lasted until late 1986 when the product was discontinued for five years in the Japanese domestic market. The 1.6-liter 4G32 engine (L021P) with 92 PS (68 kW) was Forte’s initial powertrain in Japan.
Chrysler Variants
From 1979 on, it was sold by the name of Dodge Ram 50 by the Chrysler Corporation.
When it started making direct sales in the US starting in 1982, Mitsubishi itself imported it under the name Mitsubishi Mighty Max.
The first generation was introduced by Chrysler Australia in April 1979 as the MA series Chrysler D-50.
Second Generation
For the majority of markets, the second-generation model was launched in 1986. This design was introduced in Australia in October 1986 under the name Triton. The pickups were no longer marketed in Japan for a while, but they were brought again as the Strada in March 1991.
It was referred to as the Mitsubishi Mighty Max or the Dodge Ram 50 in the US.
In 1987, the Ram 50 underwent a revamp, the same year Chrysler unveiled the Dodge Dakota, the Ram 50’s replacement.
Third Generation
A new generation model with 2.5-liter turbodiesel engines producing 103 horsepower (77 kW) became available in 1996. It came with other engine choices such as two sixteen-valve fuel-injected gasoline engines and a normally aspirated diesel.
Fourth Generation
In 2005, the Triton of the fourth generation was unveiled. It was created by Akinori Nakanishi and constructed solely by a Mitsubishi subsidiary in Thailand before being sold in 140 different countries. Except for Japan and its subsidiary countries, it was primarily referred to as the L200. A 2.5-liter turbo-diesel engine with 134 kW (180 horsepower) was installed in the vehicle.
Fifth Generation
The fifth-generation Mitsubishi Triton/L200/Strada was revealed in 2014 and went on sale in early 2015 in Asia-Pacific and late 2015 in the Caribbean and Europe.
New Mitsubishi Triton L200: 6th Generation
After over ten years of manufacturing, the 6th generation New Mitsubishi Triton L200 has been launched, signifying a considerable improvement. It has a whole new exterior, platform, and interior design. The new Mitsubishi Triton L200, which is wider and larger than the outgoing one, will come in a Double cabin, a Club cabin (a two-door single cabin with storage behind the front seats), and standard single cabin variations. The DOHC 4N16, a single 16-valve 2.4L inline turbo diesel engine, is available in the new Mitsubishi Triton L200. With changes to the intercooler, turbocharger, and fuel injector, this engine has outperformed the preceding 4N15 in terms of performance and fuel efficiency. The engine is available in three power bands depending on the version: 148 HP and 330 NM of torque, 181 HP and 430 NM of torque, and the most potent model at 201 HP and 470 NM of torque.
Exterior
The appearance of the New Mitsubishi L200 is boxy and tough, adhering to Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design principles. The front features larger split headlights and a grill with horizontal slats that is more perpendicular and wider. Between the hood and the headlights are integrated LED daytime running lights. The model has wider rectangular fender flares in the side profile, which gives it an imposing and rugged appearance. New T-shaped LED taillights and an integrated spoiler give the back a sportier look. Mitsubishi currently offers a variety of accessories for the cargo bed.
Interior
The interior is modeled by the Mitsubishi Outlander SUV and includes a multifunction steering wheel, the same infotainment screen, and an instrument panel with a digital driver information display. With its extensive storage space and soft-touch inside materials, the interior is cozy and crossover-like. For the new Mitsubishi L200, Mitsubishi promises best-in-class comfort and interior spaciousness. The new model also has Mitsubishi Connect, a smartphone app-based remote control function that enables control over lights, HVAC, and engine performance.
Price
The new Mitsubishi Triton L200 will shortly begin production and go on sale in Thailand before expanding to other ASIAN countries and Japan. Based on the current currency rate between Thailand and the US, the entry-level single cabin model costs about $20.4K in Thailand, while the most expensive, fully equipped model costs about $30K.
