Overview
A very interesting prototype has been introduced by Changan, an SUV that can be changed into a truck when needed. The CD701 concept from Chinese automaker Changan is a preview of its upcoming production model. The CD701 concept, unveiled under the Qiyuan brand, is a cross between an SUV and a pickup truck and is anticipated to give rise to a road-going version that will go into production the following year.
The concept CD701, which may be sold as the “E0,” was unveiled at the Changan Automobile Science and Technology Ecological Conference in Chongqing, China. It is supported by the company’s SDA innovative electric vehicle platform and is built like a five-seat SUV with a sloping roofline and a modern exterior.
Changan CD701 Interior
The inside has a technological appearance but maintains a minimalist aesthetic with an SUV and truck style. While the sides and back move backward on five-spoke wheels and the rear has typical taillights and adjustable ambient lighting, the center of the C-shaped light cluster has distinct stripes.
Low wind resistance wheels and streamlined external mirrors reduce wind resistance, which when paired with other design aspects gives the vehicle a sleek appearance.
However, the car doesn’t have an instrument panel. Although it may have a heads-up display (HUD) design, the center control area also has a sizable screen. It’s anticipated that after the car is put into mass production, certain alterations will be made. Last but not least, the seat backs and other interior elements are made of eco-friendly materials.
Changan CD701 Exterior
The front fascia of the CD701 is quite straightforward in terms of EV design, with C-shaped LED daytime running lights and tiny headlights. Additionally, it has a display in place of a conventional grille that may display the vehicle’s range and battery level. The front bumper also has additional D-shaped LEDs that resemble the VW T-Roc’s DRLs in appearance.
Although the concept’s front is very traditional, its side profile and back are anything but. To begin with, it boasts enormous wheels that are hidden beneath squared-off arches, no visible door handles, cameras in place of wing mirrors, and a roofline and rear window that extend to the vehicle’s high decklid. Furthermore, the rear glass panel of the SUV may move up and over the roof to transform it into a pickup truck.
Features
Zhuge Intelligence is expected to have a number of features such as driver assistance functions, level-3 autonomous driving, and other contemporary conveniences, however, the Changan has not yet disclosed the exact features.
The ‘brain’ of the car was independently built by Changan and includes features like voice interactions, autonomous charging, and automatically looking for charging outlets. Moreover, according to Changan, the CD701 will be the first car in the world to be fitted with “vehicle satellite communication” technology, which can provide global coverage, whenever necessary connect to the Internet, and never lose the internet connection.
Launch Date
No other details are currently known about this concept Changan CD701. The electric vehicles from the brand are built on the SDA platform. Despite being a prototype, it has been indicated that it may go into production in 2024, so we won’t have to wait long to learn more about the model.
Conclusion
Changan Automobile announced the formation of a brand-new technology company known as “Zhuge Intelligence.” Under the new brand, the business will develop three key experiences: “Zhuge Interaction,” “Zhuge Intelligent Driving,” and “Zhuge Ecosystem.” Changan said that the new cars will have a variety of intelligent features from these three core technologies.
